What is the longest Layover I can schedule and still have it be counted as one continuous trip? 24? 48?

Hoping to try to have a day to two day stopover in Honolulu to visit my brother on my way back home to Portland, Oregon. Coming from Seoul, South Korea. Not sure how much time airlines allow for a lay over or if I can actually request a long layover.
